Effective Date: February 27, 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to My Recipe Saver ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application ("App") and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and password. Passwords are never stored in plain text — they are securely hashed using the bcrypt algorithm with a cost factor of 12 before storage.
  • Social Authentication Data: If you sign in using Apple or Google, we receive and store a unique identifier from the respective provider (Apple ID or Google ID) along with your email address and display name. We do not receive or store your social account passwords.
  • Recipe Data: Recipes you create or import, including titles, descriptions, ingredients, instructions, preparation and cook times, serving sizes, notes, and tags.
  • Recipe Images: Photos you upload or capture for your recipes.
  • Meal Plan Data: Weekly meal plans you create, including which recipes are assigned to specific days and meal types, custom serving sizes, and notes.
  • Grocery List Data: Shopping list items including item names, quantities, categories, and checked/unchecked status.
  • Shared Recipe Data: When you share recipes with other users via share codes, we store the recipe content and associated share codes.
  • CSV Import Data: If you import recipes via CSV file, we process the file contents to create recipe entries in your account.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Information: We may collect your device identifier to associate your device with your account for subscription verification purposes.
  • Subscription Information: We collect and store your subscription tier (Free or Premium), subscription expiration date, and RevenueCat user identifier to manage your subscription status.
  • Timestamps: We record the date and time when accounts, recipes, meal plans, grocery items, and shared recipes are created or updated.

2.3 Information We Do Not Collect

  • We do not collect precise geolocation data.
  • We do not collect contacts, call logs, or SMS data.
  • We do not use tracking technologies for advertising purposes.
  • We do not collect browsing history or data from other apps on your device.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Providing the Service: To create and manage your account, store and display your recipes, generate meal plans, and manage grocery lists.
  • AI-Powered Features: When you use the AI recipe scanning feature, images you provide are sent to OpenAI's API for analysis and text extraction. OpenAI processes these images to identify recipe details (ingredients, instructions, cooking times) and returns the extracted information to our Service. We do not use your images for any purpose other than recipe extraction. Please refer to OpenAI's Privacy Policy for information on how OpenAI handles data.
  • Subscription Management: To verify your subscription status, manage premium features, and process subscription-related activities through RevenueCat.
  • Authentication: To verify your identity when you sign in via email/password, Apple Sign-In, or Google Sign-In.
  • Recipe Sharing: To enable you to share recipes with other users through unique share codes.
  • Cloud Sync: For premium subscribers, to synchronize your recipes, meal plans, and grocery lists across multiple devices.
  • Service Improvement: To understand how the Service is used and to improve functionality and user experience.

4. Data Storage and Security

4.1 Storage Architecture

  • Free Users: Your recipes (up to 20), meal plans, and grocery lists are stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. This data is not transmitted to or stored on our servers unless you upgrade to a premium subscription.
  • Premium Users: Your data is stored in a secure PostgreSQL database hosted on our servers, enabling cloud sync and backup across devices. When you upgrade from Free to Premium, your locally stored recipes are migrated to cloud storage.

4.2 Security Measures

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including:

  • Password Security: All passwords are hashed using the bcrypt algorithm with a cost factor of 12 before storage. We never store passwords in plain text.
  • Secure Transmission: All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS (TLS/SSL).
  • Database Security: Our database is hosted on secure infrastructure with access controls and encryption at rest.
  • Cascade Deletion: When you delete your account, all associated data (recipes, meal plans, grocery items, and shared recipes) is automatically and permanently deleted from our servers through cascading database deletions.

While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the Service:

  • Business Transfer: In connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, in which case your personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

7. Data Retention

  • Active Accounts: We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service.
  • Deleted Accounts: When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently deleted from our servers through cascading database deletion. This includes your profile information, recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, and shared recipes.
